EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS

This guided walk passes Hammerfest's distinctive parish church before heading out of town and up the slopes. You start walking up the "Gammelveien" ("Old Way") a hiking path around the mountain Salen. This was the only way into town in earlier days. As you head towards the top, you'll go through Hammerfest's only forest, Jansvannskogen. A bid for the mountain's peak requires a fair amount of fitness but the panoramas are certainly worth it. On a clear day you can enjoy incredible views of the islands Melkoya, Soroya and Seiland. The route back down to the ship and a well-earned rest comes via the popular zigzag path to the town centre.
