You may arrive in Buenos Aires at any time during Day 1 of your itinerary. Upon arriving in this splendid city, known for its soaring architecture and rich European heritage, you will independently transfer to the group hotel (pre-night hotel included).

Explore

Location: Ushuaia, Argentina, and Embarkation

After breakfast at the hotel, the group will transfer to the airport and board our private charter flight to Ushuaia, Argentina.

Upon arrival, you will have a little time to explore this quaint port town before heading to the pier.

This famous channel transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in the extreme south of South America. Expect an air of anticipation as you depart—the next time you’ll see land you’ll be in the world’s most southern continent!

Day 2

Day 3-4

Explore

Location: Crossing the Drake Passage

Prepare yourself for potentially rough water, but hope for a smooth sailing, as the Drake is unpredictable and always changing. You’ll spend these first days getting to know your shipmates while your Expedition Team provides safety briefings and insights into what excitement lies ahead.

Explore

Location: South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula

Once the Antarctic Convergence is left in our wake, you will truly begin your Antarctic adventure. It is perhaps the first sight of land itself that is embraced as the true beginning of any Antarctic expedition. You will begin to appreciate why this region has long captivated the attention of explorers and travelers alike. Every time we visit Antarctica, we witness something new or unexpected, which means that your expedition will be unlike any other—creating a unique, personal experience.

Each day, you will take Zodiac excursions from the ship to explore local bays, channels and landing sites. With wildlife always at the forefront of our minds, you will visit penguin rookeries, scout for humpback and minke whales, and search for a number of southern seal species, including the cunning leopard seal.

The majesty of the Antarctic Peninsula’s mountains will enchant as you scramble up snowy pathways to vantage points offering you 360° views of your surroundings. One of these in particular, in Danco Island, affords us the opportunity to visit a penguin colony high up on a ridge. Here, you’ll have the choice between hiking to the island’s summit or spending time sitting quietly on a pebbled beach, enjoying the antics of curious penguins. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, participating in the Polar Plunge swim is about as crazy as it gets!

Amid the serene silence of Antarctica, noisy interludes become indelible memories, such as penguins squabbling over prized pebbles, or the boom and crack of a calving glacier in Neko Harbour.

Each day will be different, having been carefully crafted by your Expedition Team to entertain and educate you about this wonderful part of the world.

Day 5-8

Day 9-10

Explore

Location: Crossing the Drake Passage

The journey back across the Drake Passage provides final opportunities to enjoy the crisp Antarctic air. Spend time on the deck, watching for seabirds and scouting for whales, enjoy presentations by your Expedition Team, or simply relax and reminisce about your experiences.

Explore

Location: Disembark in Ushuaia and Fly to Buenos Aires

You will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning, after breakfast. After disembarking, you will get a little taste of Patagonia, touring Tierra del Fuego National Park before transferring to the airport for the return group charter flight to Buenos Aires.

Day 11

Location
Ushuaia

Important reminder: Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy – and excitement – of expedition travel. There are no guarantees that we can achieve everything we set out to accomplish. A measure of flexibility is something all of us must bring to a voyage. There are nearly 200 recognized sites in the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetlands and the places mentioned above may be changed to others equally as interesting.

Prabhakar: Travelled on the Ocean Endevour with Quark Expedition to Antarctica

The best time and only time to visit Antarctic Peninsula as a tourist is between November to early March. (Antarctic Summer). The Antarctic Peninsula is the most accessible area for visitors. My dad & I travelled in mid December and the Peninsula was coming to life with various types of penguins in their colonies, different kinds of Seals and birds, including the Albatross, the bird with the largest wing span, Whale sightings and much more. the sheer innocence of the landscape and setting foot on the 7th continent was a once in life time experience, including visiting various landing sites (bays, channels, island). We travelled from Mumbai to Buenos Aires via Dubai on Emirates. I booked our trip with Quark Expeditions, they had some great early booking savings and lots of choices in terms of ships and trip duration. Based on our schedule, opted to travel on the Ocean Endeavour, it included a hotel night in Buenos Aires where we met our fellow travelers from all over the world. Making it a very international experience. From there the group flew to Ushuaia on a charter flight, set sail that afternoon. Onboard based on their expertise, everyday the expedition team held lectures with visuals, we had some great chat with the expedition team. It was fun and interesting and they prepared us for the Drake Passage. They had two ship doctors who were also available readily for no additional costs. You will hear a lot of versions regarding the Drake passage. I was fine, however dad experience some sea sickness and was well looked after, but it only lasted one day. The ship was spacious and had an amazing amount of public space, the deck area was vast and never felt crowded. It allowed me to capture some amazing shots. Onboard Service was great, the ship crew was very friendly always ensured that we were satisfied with our meals as I had requested Indian Vegetarian meal and it was catered to at all times, in a addition there was always a wide selection of food and I tried many of the other vegetarian options. Overall I can't recommend this trip enough especially if you are planning a family trip. Let me know if you have any specific questions happy to help out. Hope this helps. Cheers Prabhakar
